recession-bending ideas for the modern world
Hey all… so this idea has been percolating for a while. I see a number of personal finance blogs on the net, as well as various ones relating to ways to make extra money, save money, get freebies, etc. But I’ve found few of them from a perspective like mine – most are family or parent-oriented, which is just lovely, but my perspective is a queer, urban thirtysomething one. And I am relentless in pursuing ways to make or save an extra buck. I’ve shared this with a few folks, and I’m always surprised at how eagerly the information is taken up… so I thought I’d pass it on a little bit more regularly.
About me:
I’m 32 (33 next month), living in New York but prepping a move to Providence, RI (also next month), to make a long-distance relationship with my boyfriend a short-distance one, which is exciting.
I’m also in career transition, having spent most of my life pursuing a career as a performer, an actor/singer, and lately the passion has faded. So, I currently do media transcription, and will continue that until something more stable comes along. But the workload isn’t constant and so having alternate streams of income helps, and I’m always on the lookout!
My focus will be more on the immediate than the long-term. I’ve always been relatively responsible, but having lived as a starving artist for most of my life, my expertise is in finding ways to make extra money, rather than in saving and investing. So I know all the reputable survey companies, focus groups, usability studies, coupons, and that kind of thing, and that’s what I plan to share. Some of these will get me referrals, but I promise not to post anything I wouldn’t recommend doing (unless I’m warning against it).
So there we are! Further posts will include tips, money-making sites or ways to save! And feel free to comment away, I’d love to hear your thoughts and learn as well!
